Announcing Sophon Lit's inaugural Poetry Contest, judged by K. Iver! Submit up to 3 poems of any style and length for a chance to win $100, editorial praise from our judge, publication with Sophon Lit, and an interview feature in our blog. Sophon Lit's editors will compile a shortlist at the end of the submission period, to be forwarded to the judge—shortlisted pieces are also guaranteed publication. All editorial and judging decisions are final.

Contest guidelines:

Open for submissions 9/1/24—10/6/24. Submissions are free.

Please title the email subject as follows: CONTEST/Last name (e.g. CONTEST/Smith).

Submit up to 3 poems and include a short third-person bio.

Simultaneous submissions are welcome—though please let us know if so, and notify us ASAP if the piece is accepted elsewhere.

We do not accept previously published work for our contest.

Contest submissions are considered for regular publication with Sophon Lit.

Sophon Lit has a zero-tolerance policy for plagiarism, and we do not accept AI-assisted work. We also do not condone bigotry or excessive violence of any kind.
Contest Judge
K. Iver
K. Iver (they/them) is a nonbinary trans poet born in Mississippi. Their book Short Film Starring My Beloved’s Red Bronco won the 2022 Ballard Spahr Prize for Poetry from Milkweed Editions. Short Film has been named a finalist for the L.A. Times Book Prize, the Kate Tufts Discovery Award, the Lambda Literary Award and has been named a Best Book of 2023 by the New York Public Library. Iver’s poems have appeared in Boston Review, Kenyon Review, The L.A. Review of Books, and elsewhere. Iver has received fellowships from The Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, the Sewanee Writers’ Conference, and the Helene Wurlitzer Foundation. They have a Ph.D. in Poetry from Florida State University.
